Convert pyeong and m² precisely
Pyeong is the traditional Korean area unit used for homes and land. One pyeong equals exactly 400/121 ≈ 3.3058 m². This tool converts pyeong→m² and m²→pyeong, and computes pyeong from a width × height in meters.
| Pyeong | m² (approx) | Common name |
|---|---|---|
| 18 | 59 | small |
| 25.4 | 84 | "national size" (34-pyeong type) |
| 32 | 106 | mid-size |
| 40 | 132 | larger |
The big trap: net vs. supplied area
A unit called "34-pyeong" is often 84 m² (about 25.4 pyeong) in net terms. Why?
- Net area (전용면적): the actual interior space — the basis for registration and tax (e.g. 84 m²).
- Supplied area (공급면적): net area plus shared hallways and stairs — usually what "○○-pyeong type" refers to (≈ 112 m² ≈ 34 pyeong).
So the same home is called both 84 m² (net) and 34-pyeong (supplied). The m² figure is usually the net area, so converting it straight to pyeong will look smaller than the marketed pyeong type — that's expected.
