How to record
- Choose audio options (screen/tab audio, microphone) and press "Start recording".
- In the browser prompt, pick what to share: a Chrome tab, a window or the entire screen.
- A running timer shows while recording; you can pause and resume.
- Press "Stop recording" — or the browser's "Stop sharing" button — to preview and save the video.
Files are named after the moment recording ended, for example screen-recording-20261016-143005.webm.
Browser support
| Browser | Screen capture | Tab / system audio |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome, Edge (desktop) | Yes | Yes, when sharing a tab with "Share audio" on |
| Firefox (desktop) | Yes | Mostly no |
| Safari (Mac) | Recent versions | No |
| Phone and tablet browsers | Mostly no | — |
The output format is picked automatically from what your browser supports, in the order WebM (VP9) → WebM (VP8) → MP4. When both the microphone and tab audio are on, they are mixed into a single audio track.
Privacy and caveats
- Everything happens inside your browser; the video is never uploaded. It lives only in this device's memory, so save it before closing the page.
- Long recordings use a lot of memory. For sessions longer than a few tens of minutes, splitting into several files is safer.
- Some players don't show the full length of WebM files or seek slowly. If that happens, open the file in a player such as VLC.
- Get consent before recording other people's screens or video calls.
