Two barcode types
| Code 128 | EAN-13 | |
|---|---|---|
| Allowed data | Upper/lower-case letters, digits, keyboard symbols | 13 digits |
| Check character | Calculated automatically (mod 103) | 13th digit (mod 10) |
| Typical use | Shipping labels, inventory, asset tags | Retail products |
Code 128 here is encoded with Code Set B, which supports printable ASCII 32–126 including the space. Non-ASCII text (accents, Korean, emoji) is not supported.
EAN-13 check digit
Multiply the first 12 digits alternately by 1 and 3 (odd positions ×1, even positions ×3), add them up, and subtract the last digit of the sum from 10 (a result of 10 becomes 0). For example, 590123412345 gets check digit 7, giving 5901234123457. If you enter all 13 digits and the last one is wrong, the tool shows the correct number.
Options and downloads
- Bar width: pixels per module (the narrowest bar). For print, 2–3 px or more is safer.
- Height and quiet zone: scanners need blank space on both sides, so do not shrink the margin too far.
- SVG scales without blurring — best for print and design. PNG is easy to drop into documents and web pages.

Keep in mind
EAN-13 numbers for products sold in stores must be issued by GS1 (your national GS1 office). This tool draws barcode images; it does not issue numbers. Always test a printed barcode with a real scanner or phone app. Your data is processed only in your browser.
